This guide will walk you through how to find Congressional district number for an address and then display that information on a map.
First you will need to organize the addresses you want to convert to Congressional districts into a spreadsheet. The addresses will either need to be all in a single column, or all split into multiple columns, like below. It doesn't matter which you use, as long as the format is consistent.
Street | City | State | ZIP |
---|---|---|---|
660 Pennsylvania Ave SE | Washington | DC | 20003 |
1718 14th St | Washington | dc |

Alternatively, if it's easier for you, you can use the Geocodio API to convert addresses to Congressional districts. See our documentation on how to convert address to Congressional districts here.
Yes! Sort of. Because ZIP codes are postal routes and not geographic areas, and because they cover large areas of land, you can geocode ZIP codes -- with caution. Congressional districts often take weird shapes and span neighborhoods, cities, and counties. Congressional districts rarely follow boundaries. If you were to submit just a ZIP code to Geocodio, we would return the most likely Congressional district. If you use our API, we'll return all of the possible Congressional districts ranked by the proportion of that ZIP code that is in each Congressional district. See more on converting ZIP codes to Congressional districts.
If you just want to get the Congressional districts, you can upload the spreadsheet to Geocodio and in step 4 of the upload process select "Congressional Districts." You can upload your spreadsheet here.
Yes! With Geocodio you can add Senator and Representative names, phone numbers, email addresses, and more all in the same step. Just select "Add Congress contact information?" when you add Congressional districts -- it's free when you request that add-on. You can see the full list of Congressperson information we return here. It's included with all Congressional district API results.
With Geocodio, you have two options for displaying addresses with Congressional district information on a map:
The video below shows how you can add Congressional district boundaries to a map with Geocodio Maps.
